Cheerleader camp

A cold early February Saturday is a perfect time to send your nearly six year old daughter to a cheerleader camp. Four hours of yelling, cheering, dancing, jumping, posing and just flat out being a girl. She loved it. We got to see a performance at the end. Here’s the final product (Gabby’s the tie-dye kid…warning: heh! it’s loud).

Snow, snow, snow

It snowed yesterday. The prediction was for upwards of 20 inches. All told we wound up with somewhere around 13 inches (or so). Lot’s of snow + high, gusty winds = snow drifts that look like vanilla sand dunes. We are very thankful the power never went out…came close a couple times. The house was warm. The fridge, freezer and pantry were full.
Our current status is that with our neighbors help the driveway is clear along with the sidewalks. The plow crews of our fair city are doing a fantastic job clearing the roads. They haven’t made it down our street, but once they do we will be free again. Unfortunately, my car and the hot rod minivan do not make it through knee deep ruts very well.
What could have been really bad turned out to be fairly mild. Our SoCal and NM family members would have loved last night.

1/5/11…Madi turned four. Four? Really? I mean wasn’t it just a short time ago that I was woken up in the wee hours of the morning to the line, “Ummm, I think it’s time to go.” Not that four years is a long time, but come on. How in the world has time gone by so quick?
Madi is a great kid! She had a great birthday. We do what we can to separate her birthday from Christmas a bit. The last couple years we’ve waited a few weeks before having a kid-party for her. It works out well.
This year the birthday gift most asked for was Barbie stuff or Ariel stuff (Little Mermaid). I think she got plenty of both.

Sneeky Christmas Gift

We pulled a fast one on Grandma and Grandpa Pacelli (aka Pacelli North). Dad and Auntie Rhonda were in cahoots! Auntie Rhonda, Uncle Roman, Dylan and Evan came down to Central Illinois for a photo shoot. The results were amazing. Not only do I have beautiful daughters, but I have handsome nephews too boot.
We surprised Grandma and Grandpa with pictures of the kids for Christmas. Can’t go wrong with pictures of the grandkids.

Time off

Sorry…I took some time off. Between work outside the home and work inside the home…ya’, ya’, ya’ you know the story.

The kids are great. Kindergarten and preschool are suiting them well.

I will be adding photos and details over the next few days. (I’m off for a week!)

Where have we been?

It has been an eventful last month or so. We’ve enjoyed some really cool things. We’ve endured some painful things.

First a cool thing…Mom bought the girls a really cool pool to use this summer. It’s bigger! Which means it has to be better. The girls love it. They can’t show off all their new swimming skills learned over the winter, but they certainly can splash anyone who comes close.
Now a painful thing…we had to put Roxy to sleep. Poor girl had cancer on her liver. The effects came on quick. We showed Roxy our unwavering love one final time by taking the pain away. She got real bad real quick. We miss her so much. She was a great dog. She was fantastic with the kids. Heck, they both learned to walk by pulling themselves up on her. Roxy was 8 years old.
Back to something cool…Dad got to go to Minnesota fishing! After a long absence I joined my “fishin’ buddies” on Rainy Lake. It was awesome! We caught fish. We ate like, like, like…ummm…we ate really well. (thanks Uncle Mike!) We all got some much-needed relaxation time. Next year?
Something else cool…we are redoing Gabby’s room. We told her she got to pick the new color for her room since she’s now 5. Her choice was pink. Gabby has been a big help in the redo. It’s coming along well. Work and other activities keep taking us away from finishing, but maybe this coming weekend.
More cool suff you ask?…Gymnastics! The girls are taking gymnastics classes this summer. They are doing well. They are enjoying every minute. Dad gets weekly gymnastics shows when he gets home from work. Good fun.
We are also prepping for our yearly trip to Northern Wisconsin. The girls can’t wait to go fishing and swimming in the lake. Mom and Dad can’t wait for fun times around the campfire. Once we return from Wisconsin the search for Roxy’s predecessor begins.

What? It’s Madi being Madi. She had been telling Mom and I all about the importance of taking underpants with you while camping. Again, just Madi being Madi.

Tiddying up & New Hampshire

Spring has sprung in Central Illinois. The Sox have taken the field. The windows can be opened during the day. The “smell” of winter is now leaving the house. Of all the great things to happen upon spring’s arrival everything pales in comparison to sending the girls outside to play. It doesn’t take much prodding. They are now old enough to realize the benefits. It’s time to play in the sandbox. Slide on the slides. Ride bikes down the driveway. Time to help Dad wash cars. Sometimes they actually do help wash cars. In the pictures below they enjoyed being sprayed and splashing in the puddles a bit more.
Also of note, Mom and I took a weekend jaunt to Jackson Township, New Hampshire. Beautiful area! We took the trip for my wonderful cousin/sister Valerie’s wedding. The wedding was beautiful. The accommodations at The Wentworth were fantastic. Mom and I had a wonderful weekend together. (Thanks Grandma Daley for watching the girls!)
